What can we say about this delicious and delightful dessert? No matter how much we praise loukoumades, it will never be enough…
Loukoumades are perhaps one of the most beloved treats for both young and old, and rightfully so. After all, they are a globally cherished delicacy, as most national cuisines around the world feature recipes based on this simple dough, which is fried in hot oil and then paired with various sweet or savory ingredients.
Different Variations
Although the classic loukoumades with pure thyme honey and cinnamon are the most common sweet version, we can also combine them with or without filling, with chocolate and honey, walnuts, sugar, and cinnamon. They can also be made savory with spices or a cheese sauce. In any case, no one will be disappointed, and no one will be able to resist them!
However, to achieve the best result, we must pay attention to both the quality of the ingredients we choose and the preparation method.
Our loukoumades should be light and crispy with a golden color.
How to Achieve the Best Results
For this perfect result, we rely on our Limnos wheat flour, produced from the fertile land of Limnos. It is pure and comes from the island’s local wheat. It contains no preservatives and will amaze you with the rich flavor it adds to every recipe!
The following recipe is a simple traditional version for unsweetened loukoumades, which can be enjoyed in either a sweet or savory variation.

Ingredients
- 850g Limnos wheat flour
- 2 packets of dry yeast
- 1.3 liters of lukewarm water
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 pinch of salt
- Corn oil for frying
To Serve:
- Limnos thyme honey
- Cinnamon
- Crushed nuts
PREPARATION & EXECUTION
- In a large bowl, add all the ingredients for the loukoumades. Start with the flour, placing the yeast and sugar on one side and the salt on the other.
- Gradually pour in the water (make sure it is not hot, just at room temperature) while continuously mixing by hand until you get a smooth batter.
- Whisk for 5 minutes.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rest in a warm, dry place for 30-45 minutes until it rises.
- In a deep pot, heat plenty of oil until it is very hot.
- Once the oil reaches the right temperature, take a small portion of the dough in your hand, close it into a fist, and let the dough slightly overflow from between your fingers. Use a teaspoon to scoop out small portions of dough and drop them into the hot oil.
- Turn them with a slotted spoon and fry them for a few minutes until they turn light golden brown. Once ready, remove them from the oil.
- Repeat the process with the remaining dough.
- For extra crispy loukoumades, fry them twice.
- Reheat the oil and fry them once more until they turn a deep golden brown and become extra crunchy.
- Remove them from the oil and place them on absorbent paper.
- Serve them drizzled with honey, cinnamon, and crushed nuts.
