Timeline of Our History
1919
The traditional bakery is founded in the village of Portianou, Lemnos, by Nikolaos Poriazis and his wife Chrysanthi, with the goal of supplying the local community with bread and rusks.
1937
The bakery’s operation continues under the management of great-grandmother Chrysanthi, alongside her eldest son, Konstantinos Poriazis.
1945
Konstantinos Poriazis, a highly perceptive and enterprising individual, takes over the bakery. In 1962, he modernizes the bakery by acquiring the first German oven on the island, transforming it into a contemporary bakery.
1981
The bakery is passed down to Konstantinos Poriazis’ two sons, Nikolaos and Dimitrios Poriazis. The business moves to its current privately-owned facilities and is equipped with modern machinery. The business moves to its current privately-owned facilities and is equipped with modern machinery.
1982
Determined to evolve the family business, the two brothers take two significant steps:
1 .Engaging in the cultivation of local grain varieties, specifically Lemnos Wheat and “Panagia” Barley.
2. Expanding beyond the island, focusing on distributing their products, primarily rusks, to larger markets.
2004-2010
During this period, two major facility expansions and technological upgrades take place. Additionally, a partnership with local farmers is established within the framework of contract farming, aiming to increase the cultivation and production of local grain varieties.
2009
The company begins its collaboration with the Department of Food Science and Nutrition at the University of the Aegean.
2015
The fourth generation of the family joins the business, while a new production line for traditional pasta is introduced.
2016
The bakery “Lemnos” is rebranded as “Poriazis Family – Lemnos”, with a new logo and a refreshed corporate identity.
2017
The Poriazis Family, utilizing its high-quality flour, begins packaging it in 1kg bags and distributing it to supermarkets and smaller retail outlets.
2020
A new AGRO-IDENTITY certification is awarded to our products by the National Center for Research and Technological Development (CERTH). This certification verifies the genetic identity (DNA), isotopic footprint, and microbial profile of our products. It confirms that our wheat is cultivated in Lemnos and that samples compared with the national gene bank identify it as belonging to the local Lemnos wheat variety.
2021
A new era begins in the snack category, with two new product launches: Olive Oil Wheat Rusks and Olive Oil & Anise Wheat Rusks. A few months later, two additional barley rusk varieties are introduced: Barley Rusks with Olive Oil and Barley Rusks with No Added Salt
2022
We receive the Terra Vita Certification for Agricultural Heritage & Biodiversity, recognizing our commitment to traditional agricultural practices that benefit biodiversity and the landscape while preserving the local identity of Lemnos.
